Garden of Remembrance is a thought provoking and immersive exhibition by Mona Whitton, selected through our Now, Then & Always: Remembrance commission programme.
Focusing on sustainability and community, the exhibition features a series of tree branches displaying photographs and memories of veterans from both World Wars and more recent conflicts that have touched the lives of Gravesend residents. A projection of photographs, stories and reflections from veterans past and present will explore experiences of conflict, remembrance and hope for the future, inviting visitors to reflect on the enduring legacy of service and sacrifice. Visitors are encouraged to write a message on the leaves of hope and affix to the trees creating an evolving installation piece.
Mona has worked closely with veterans, cadets and community groups to bring their memories, experiences and perspectives into the heart of this exhibition, ensuring it reflects the voices and stories of the local community.
